Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. She is a senator and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. The attention of the nation was drawn by her shrewd examination of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
